Mondo Duplantis Soars to Yet Another Diamond League Victory
Brussels, Belgium – Pole vault sensation Armand “Mondo” Duplantis once again showcased his dominance, clinching his fourth consecutive Diamond League Trophy at the Memorial Van Damme meeting in Brussels on Friday.
The Swedish superstar, who holds both the world and Olympic titles, cleared 6.11 meters on his first attempt, leaving the competition far behind. His closest rival, Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, managed a best of 5.82 meters. Belgian Ben Broeders and American Sam Kendricks shared third place with identical heights of 5.82 meters.
Despite the impressive performance, Duplantis admitted to feeling the effects of a grueling season. Just a week prior, he had stunned the world by defeating 400-meter hurdles world record holder Karsten Warholm in a 100-meter race. The physical toll of that unexpected victory was evident in his pole vaulting performance.
“My legs felt terrible tonight, and I’m just really tired,” Duplantis revealed after the competition. “It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. The race against Karsten and then having to jump the day after took a lot more from my body than I expected.”
While Duplantis didn’t attempt to break his own world record of 6.26 meters, his 6.11-meter clearance was enough to set a new meeting record. The Swede expressed his satisfaction with the result, considering the circumstances.
“With 6.11m, I got a good result but the world record wasn’t meant to be tonight,” he said. “It’s not easy to do better each time. Everything needs to come together. I had some good jumps and I’m really happy about that.”
As the Diamond League season came to a close, Duplantis celebrated another successful year. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete at the highest level and looked forward to a well-deserved break.
