Ostia, Italy – Swede Hampus Winberg secured a commanding victory in the men’s park skateboarding open qualifier at the World Skate Games Italia 2024. With a score of 87.14, the 18-year-old outshone a field of 30 skaters to advance to the quarter-finals.
Winberg’s impressive performance on Thursday, September 19th, solidified his position as a frontrunner for the world championship title. His exceptional skills and consistency were on full display as he effortlessly navigated the park’s obstacles and landed clean tricks.
Joining Winberg in the quarter-finals were several other notable names from the skateboarding world, including Ash Wilcomes of Australia, Viktor Solmunde, Keefer Wilson, Pedro Barros, and Luigi Cini. These skaters, many of whom competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics, showcased their talent and determination to secure a place in the next round.
Brazil, a powerhouse in skateboarding, made a significant impact with eight skaters qualifying for the men’s quarters. Among them were Augusto Akio, who earned a direct entry to the quarter-finals due to his Olympic bronze medal from Paris.
As the competition heats up, the women’s and men’s quarter-finals will take place on Friday, September 20th. The top 16 skaters from each event will then advance to the semi-finals, where they will battle it out for a place in the championship finals.
In the women’s street skateboarding event, Rayssa Leal of Brazil successfully defended her world title, defeating a strong Japanese challenge. Leal’s victory marked a significant milestone in her career and solidified her position as one of the world’s leading female skateboarders.
