India Aims for Double-Digit Medal Haul at Paris Olympics
New Delhi: India is gearing up for a historic performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, which kicks off on Friday with a spectacular opening ceremony along the Seine River. The nation has sent its largest-ever contingent of 117 athletes to compete across 16 sports.
Led by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and boxing medalist Lovlina Borgohain, India is determined to surpass its previous best medal tally of seven, achieved at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president, PT Usha, a legendary athlete herself, is confident of a double-digit medal haul.
The Indian contingent has received comprehensive support, including mental conditioning experts and personal coaches, to optimize their performance.
All eyes will be on Neeraj Chopra as he defends his javelin gold. While he has shown consistent brilliance, the competition is fierce, with Germany’s Max Dehning emerging as a strong contender.
