Possible Extension of Income Tax Return Deadline for AY 2024-25
The income tax return filing deadline of July 31 is fast approaching, and the Income Tax Department has started receiving requests to extend the ITR due date for AY 2024-25.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) recently wrote to the Income Tax Department, citing technical glitches on the income tax e-filing portal as a major concern for tax professionals and individual taxpayers. The ICAI urged an extension of the ITR filing deadline to accommodate these issues.
Many taxpayers have taken to social media to voice their grievances, criticizing the Income Tax Department for not adequately preparing for the surge in e-filing cases, which has caused server overloads.
This isn’t the first time these problems have occurred. In previous years, taxpayers also faced similar issues when filing their tax returns close to the deadline.
