Hong Kong, China (September 14, 2024) – Double Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen continued his dominant form at the 2024 BWF Hong Kong Open, securing his place in the final with a decisive victory over Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
The Danish star, who clinched his second Olympic gold medal at Paris 2024, showcased his exceptional skill and experience on the court. In the semifinal match, Axelsen cruised through the first game with a commanding 21-9 score. The second game proved to be more challenging, but Axelsen ultimately prevailed with a 21-19 win, finishing the match in 42 minutes.
With this victory, Axelsen is now one step closer to securing his second title on tour this year, having previously won the Malaysia Masters in May. He will face unseeded Lei Lan Xi from China in the final, who upset last year’s Hong Kong Open champion Jonatan Christie in their semifinal match.
In the women’s singles competition, Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani continued her impressive run, defeating Japan’s Miyazaki Tomoka in a thrilling three-set match. Wardani will now face China’s third seed Han Yue in the final.
