Bengaluru’s Namma Metro has recently seen a huge increase in passengers, with over 8 lakh people riding daily over the past ten days. This surge has brought in more than Rs 25 crore in revenue during this period.
As COVID-19 restrictions eased, many tech professionals returned to their offices, boosting metro usage. The purple route, especially from Chellaghatta to Whitefield, has become very popular, with passenger numbers doubling on routes serving IT companies.
Previously, the metro handled about 6.5 lakh passengers daily. Now, it’s up to 8.11 lakh daily commuters. To handle this increase, trains on the purple route increased from nine to fifteen, with a train now every three and a half minutes. This adjustment helps manage crowded stations, especially during busy morning hours.
The Kempegowda metro station now has the most passengers, and Visvesvaraya station has doubled its numbers. Trains from Baiyappanahalli start ten minutes earlier due to the increased demand.
Tech professionals commuting to ITPL show a notable increase in metro use, reflecting a return to office work after widespread work-from-home during the pandemic.
Daily revenue now exceeds Rs 2 crore, showing the record number of passengers. The high demand and more frequent trains highlight Namma Metro’s important role in Bengaluru’s daily commute.
