India’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics received a significant boost on Day 4, with the shooting duo of Manu Bhaker and Sarbjot Singh clinching a bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. This historic win makes Manu Bhaker the first Indian to win two medals at a single Olympics.
While shooting brought joy, other disciplines faced challenges. Prithviraj Tondaiman narrowly missed out on the men’s trap final, and rower Balraj Panwar will compete for lower positions. Hockey, however, showed promise with a 2-0 victory over Ireland, securing a place in the quarterfinals.
The archery contingent had mixed results. Bhajan Kaur advanced to the pre-quarterfinals, but Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara bowed out. Badminton saw Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty progress to the men’s doubles quarterfinals, while Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa concluded their campaign with a disappointing loss.
Boxing was a tough day for India, with Amit Panghal, Jaismine Lamboria, and Preeti Pawar suffering early exits.
As the Games progress, India will be hoping to maintain its momentum in shooting and find its footing in other sports.
