Nasscom Supports Karnataka’s Decision to Pause Job Reservation

Nasscom, an IT industry body, has expressed support for Karnataka’s decision to halt job reservations. They emphasize the importance of attracting top global talent to keep the industry innovative.

Nasscom responded to Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on X, saying, “Karnataka is a key player in India’s tech industry, and we at Nasscom are eager to continue our partnership to strengthen its position.”

Nasscom also stated, “Talent is our greatest asset. While we are committed to growing local talent, it’s crucial to attract the best global talent to keep our industry innovative. Together, we can ensure Karnataka remains a leader in technology and innovation.”

The Karnataka government has temporarily halted a bill that aimed to mandate job quotas for Kannadigas in private firms. This decision came after significant criticism from industry leaders and tech executives.

The Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in Industries, Factories, and Other Establishments Bill, 2024, was approved by the state Cabinet on Monday and was set for Assembly discussion on Thursday. However, the Chief Minister’s Office announced on Wednesday that the bill is on hold pending further review and discussion.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated on X (formerly Twitter) that the bill, which proposes reserving 50% of management and 70% of non-management jobs for local candidates, is still under consideration and will be revisited in the next cabinet meeting.
