Manika Batra Makes History at the Olympics, Leading India’s Strong Showing
Manika Batra became the first Indian table tennis player to reach the round of 16 in the Olympics, defeating Prithika Pavade of France with a score of 4-0.
In shooting, Manu Bhaker led India’s performance for the third day in a row at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Together with Sarabjot Singh, she advanced to the bronze medal match in the 10m air pistol mixed team event after the pair placed third in the qualification round. However, Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta did not secure podium finishes in their respective 10m air rifle finals.
In badminton, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, making their second Olympic appearance, became the first Indian men’s doubles pair to reach the quarterfinals. In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen won his match to advance to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa lost their last eight matches and will not advance in women’s doubles.
In men’s hockey, Harmanpreet Singh scored a late goal in the Pool B match against Argentina, earning a point for India. However, the Indian men’s archery team, despite high expectations, performed poorly and lost their quarter-final match against Turkey.
